Holiday Angel Tree

Horton Middle School Angel Tree

Our Angel Tree is now set up in the front office and we are encouraging families, community members and staff to help out a  student over the holidays. Here’s how our Angel Tree will work this year:

To help a student, please stop by the office and take an Angel Tree card from the tree, fill out the information on the card, and place it in the gift- wrapped box on the table. Along with the card that you fill out will be a second card that you can take with you and return it with your gift card to Ms. Kidd in the office by December 12.

We recommend that you purchase your gift card from a local Wal-Mart store and although we will not require a specific amount on the gift card, we plan to give each student a total of $40. Our school staff will shop for any families who may have a transportation problem getting to and from Wal-Mart. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Kidd in the front office.

National Junior Honor Society Induction set
The Horton Middle School National Junior Honor Society will host the 6th annual induction ceremony for new members on Tuesday,  November 18th at 6:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room. 
Interested 7th & 8th graders have applied for admission and selected students will be honored for scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character and service and will join our largest campus organization. Congratulations to the new and old members for their commitment to making the world a better place. Look for information on upcoming canned food drives, relay for life and other fundraisers and service activities planned for this year. 
Labels for Education
What a wonderful opportunity to earn supplies for our school using the labels from every day products that you purchase for family use! All it takes is a little effort to remove the UPC label or provide the cap imprinted with the UPC label. This would be a great service project for your children. Send in your labels or caps from the following products. Once again, thank you for your support!
 
Volunteer Approval Process
Dear Parents and Members of the community,

Horton Middle School is always in need of parent and community volunteers to assist in various tasks such as Field Trips, Teacher/Media Assistants and Test Proctoring. We always appreciate your willingness to help and value your time and efforts. Before you choose to volunteer, please remember to complete the VOLUNTEER APPROVAL PROCESS implemented by the Board of Education.

If you completed the volunteer application last year, it must be renewed this year also....The process for renewal is simple and easy but must be completed. Click on the link below for the original volunteer process and the renewal process.

Volunteer your Time
Help yourself and Horton this school year!
Spend some volunteer time at the PTSA Thrift Shop.
Rising 7th graders can volunteer 100 thrift store hours for a FREE Washington DC trip in the 8th grade. 7th Graders can start earning hours as of July 1, 2014 towards their trip. 
You can volunteer an additional 100 hours for a parent/guardian to attend the trip also.
ALL volunteers can pick whom your volunteer hours will benefit: your teacher, a club, athletics, the DC trip, the media center.....
You can volunteer by emptying a drop box or attending a work group. 
You get to double your Thrift Shop volunteer hours during the summer!

Summer is a wonderful time to volunteer time and effort at the PTSA Thrift Shop to help Horton earn money for student activities and supplies. The extra funds are used in so many ways!:

Picnic Tables on the campus
Flowers and Plants to beautify our campus
Campus Benches and Playground Equipment
And so much more!
